Son Of Rambow.

'Son Of Rambow' is a dramedy which portrays the lives of two boys, each from a whole different world. One comes from a family that belongs to the harsh Plymouth Brethren religious sect and the other is a notorious-thief of a child [Or is he?] belonging to a household which deals in the rental of pirated movies. According to the movie's set up and theme, it seems like the timeline must've been around the early or mid 80's, when 'Rambo: First Blood' was still a fresh movie. 'Son Of Rambow' contains a lot of violence, but most of it is muted, dreamy and amiable. Will Proudfoot [Bill Milner] and Lee Carter [Will Poulter] become friends on a very unusual note, like one bullying the other and the latter fella obeys just out of boredom from his own routine life. Lee Carter seems to be one of those kind of kids who have little or no empathy at all and would be the first one to hightail out of a situation, leaving his friends behind at the first sight of trouble. Hence, he is hated by everyone. And Will Proudfoot is a lonely gifted kid with immense talent in sketching pictures, who feels that he is being oppressed by the religious brethren, and he is quite persuadable by nature. A blossoming friendship between such odd beings is quite interesting to watch.

When it comes to individual performances, both the protagonists were quite admirable throughout the movie. But, there were many other folks in the movie, who got too carried away and performed in quite a few unrealistic ways. The storyline was simple, cute and funny. It portrays the different moral aspects of friendship and tells its viewers in a more subtle manner that, "No matter in what deep trouble you might fall into, only true friends would come for help even if you didn't want them to be around." Though the movie had some really strong inspirational values attached to it, it did contain quite a number of scenes which were downright tasteless and uncreative, which in one way or another did hamper the movies overall quality

Keeping the flaws aside which afflicted the movie's overall appeal, 'Son Of Rambow' is a smart, charming and a joyride of a movie whenever Lee Carter and Will Proudfoot shared the screen. I recommend this movie for anyone whose aesthetical values match along with the notion of such a friendship where, desperation and lonliness creates it, the purpose of being needful crafts it and later the relationship itself transforms into unconditional love.
