Son Of Rambow.

'Son Of Rambow' is a dramedy which portrays the lives of two boys, each from a whole different world. One comes from a family that belongs to the harsh Plymouth Brethren religious sect and the other is a notorious-thief of a child [Or is he?] belonging to a household which deals in the rental of pirated movies. According to the movie's set up and theme, it seems like the timeline must've been around the early or mid 80's, when 'Rambo: First Blood' was still a fresh movie. 'Son Of Rambow' contains a lot of violence, but most of it is muted,dreamy and amiable. Will Proudfoot [Bill Milner] and Lee Carter [Will Poulter] become friends on a very unusual note, like one bullying the other and the latter fella obeys just out of boredom from his own routine life. Lee Carter seems to be one of those kind of kids who have little or no empathy at all and would be the first one to hightail out of a situation,leaving his friends behind at the first sight of trouble. Hence, he is hated by everyone. And Will Proudfoot is a lonely gifted kid with immense talent in sketching pictures, who feels that he is being oppressed by the religious brethren, and he is quite persuadable by nature. A blossoming friendship between such odd beings is quite interesting to watch.

When it comes to individual performances, both the protagonists were quite admirable throughout the movie. But, there were many other folks in the movie, who got too carried away and performed in quite a few unrealistic ways. The storyline was simple, cute and funny. It portrays the different moral aspects of friendship and tells its viewers in a more subtle manner that, "No matter in what deep trouble you might fall into, only true friends would come for help even if you didn't want them to be around." Though the movie had some really strong inspirational values attached to it, it did contain quite a number of scenes which were downright tasteless and uncreative, which in one way or another did hamper the movies overall quality

Keeping the flaws aside which afflicted the movie's overall appeal, 'Son Of Rambow' is a smart, charming and a joyride of a movie whenever Lee Carter and Will Proudfoot shared the screen. I recommend this movie for anyone whose aesthetical values match along with the notion of such a friendship where, desperation and lonliness creates it, the purpose of being needful crafts it and later the relationship itself transforms into unconditional love.

The Sixth Sense.

‘The Sixth Sense’ is one of those movies for which I never had read its summary before I actually went on to watch it. Basically, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. After watching it, I was still a bit baffled under which genre would this movie be categorized under. ‘The Sixth Sense’ is a semi psychological thriller coupled along with a hint of horror which deals with a child’s schizophrenia and his ability to witness the supernatural. Bruce Willis portrays the role of Dr. Malcolm Crowe, an award winning child psychiatrist, who is pretty perturbed after a failed case and a violent event with the respective patient which followed. After a year or so, Dr. Crowe took up a similar case, the case of Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment). Since, he was highly committed this time around, he hasn’t been sleeping much or spends much time with his loving wife. When Dr. Crowe went into the depths of Cole’s case, he realized the case wasn’t just related to a mere child’s schizophrenic dilemma.

This movie was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, who is quite famous when it comes to concepts relative to the supernatural and unforeseen twists in the plot and he didn’t disappoint in this flick. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay (M. Night Shyamalan), Best Actor in a Supporting Role(Haley Joel Osment), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Toni Collette), and Best Editing (Andrew Mondshein). Though, it won none for obvious reasons. Even with its strong mystical feel, ‘The Sixth Sense’ did have its own set of drawbacks. Firstly, the overall acting throughout the movie wasn’t inspiring; the dialogues were pretty corny and stale and on top of it all, the movie should’ve been a tad longer to explain certain events which aren’t supposed to be left for the viewer’s imagination, which is exactly what the movie does.

Keeping this flick’s drawbacks aside, one could easily appreciate the way most of the sequences in the movie falling into place, slowly and unseen. I must admit that I was blind-sided by the ending; I never expected such a sudden twist to come by my way. By far, ‘The Sixth Sense’ is among the few movies which made me say ‘Holy $417’ with its ending. I would highly recommend ‘The Sixth Sense’ to movie fans who would appreciate a decent horror/psychological-thriller flick which plays with their minds rather than their stomachs, since there are enough startling chilling moments throughout the movie coupled along with a serious & original storyline.

10) Personal Comment -> Just as creepy, or at least as unsettling, is the film's presentation of human existence as an endless series of tragedies and agonies, relieved only by half-baked distractions.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

Have you ever wondered? Wouldn’t it be blissful to completely forget the person without whom you cannot bare to live on? Or completely erase all your memories of them, even to the point where their existence itself is wiped out from your brain to begin with? ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ is one of those works of art which mixes black comedy, tragical romance, metaphysics and surrealism. It is by far the best work done by Screen writer Charlie Kaufman, whose earlier works were also related with respect to exploring the complexities of the human mind[Adaptation, Being John Malkovich].In ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ Kaufman surpasses himself with originality and quality. The movie went on to win an Academy Award for ‘The Best Original Screenplay Category’ and also, Kate Winslet was nominated for her role for ‘The Best Actress Category’ .

It’s another usual boring day for Joel [Jim Carrey] waiting at the station to catch the next train to head for work. It was Valentine’s day and Joel hated it, after all Valentine’s day was created by greeting card companies to make their own profits and also make loners like Joel feel miserable on this day every year. Joel was never impulsive, he was too sickened with life and his existence to be impulsive. But, at that particular moment he felt like ditching work and take a train to Montauk and have a walk at the beach. Why did he act in such a non-Joel way? Was it Impulsion? Destiny? Or something else? Joel meets a blue haired woman named Clementine[Kate Winslet] and immediately knows he doesn’t have any chance with her. After all Joel can never make any eye contact with a woman he doesn’t know. Clementine breaks the ice and asks Joel, “Do I know you”? Joel’s answer was a confirmed "*Blank*". Now the real question arises, what made Joel and Clementine be the only people to be walking around in a deserted beach in the middle of a harsh winter? Now, let me not provide any spoilers, as an avid movie-lover like myself, I know what a spoiler can do with us lot.

Despite the movie jumps through various perplexing hoops of its own story, ’Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ does have a very strong emotional core which makes it blend perfectly. Joel and Clementine deviously go through various stages of romance and reality, what remains constant is the human need for love and companionship, and the human compulsion to keep seeking it, despite all odds.

“How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot.Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd. -- Alexander Pope, "Eloisa to Abelard" The moral behind ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ is that, at the end of it all, it is our memories which is all we really have and without them, our existence has very little or no meaning at all.

The Rating:
1) Overall Acting -> 1.5
2) Reference to Context -> 1.5
3) Audio -> 1
4) Video -> 1
5) Storyline -> 1
6) Make-Up -> 1
7) Direction and Edition -> 1
8) My Choice -> 1
9) Total Rating -> 9/10
10) Personal Comment -> Dazzling and smart, but most importantly the movie portrays variable shades of love.It is a mesmerizing mind game and a must watch for anyone who is interested in the complexity of the human mind.
